      John H. Porter's comments, July 26, 1978:
'After my aunt Quintilla Porter Sherrer died, her daughter,Verne
Sherrer Faile showed me the sampler on linen made by Isabella E.
Henderson. Seeing this, I made a copy and began to run down proof. I
have visited the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery in
Huntersville, NC, about 9 miles from Charlotte. There is buried in
the cemetery both John Henderson and his wife, Ann Sample. Isabella
      E. Henderson married Lorenzo Dow Porter in Mecklenburg Co., NC, and I
have a copy of their marriage bond. I.E.H. Porter is buried in the
Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in north Dallas Co., AL. Buried next to her is
her son, John Henderson Porter, and his wife, Margaret Ann Shelby,
who was the daughter of Thomas A. Shelby and Mary Morrow Shelby.
Thomas A. Shelby fought in the Civil War (War of Northern Aggression)
and died in the Confederate Service. Mary Morrow Shelby is buried in
the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. I now have a photograph of this original
sampler in my possession. Even though it is torn in several places,
all of the original lettering may be found.'"
