Obituary of Byron H. Belcher
The Cairo Messenger September 14, 1962:
"Byron H. Belcher Passes Following Long Illness
Mr. Byron Hugh Belcher of Whigham passed away on September 11
following a long illness. Funeral services were held at the Whigham
Baptist Church on Sept. 12 with the pastor, Rev. Merrill Corum, and
Rev. Leon Van Landingham in charge of the services. Mr. Belcher was
79 years of age.
Burial was in the Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery with
Francis Hester, Jack Kennemur, Cecil Crew, Elmer Crew, Cecil Gibbs,
and Luther Harden active as pallbearers.
Mr. Belcher was born on April 19, 1883 in Grady County, son of S.
L. and Janie Connell Belcher. He was married to Gussie Wade Kelly in
1920 in Cairo. He had lived all his life in this county, was a
retired farmer and a member of the Whigham Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife and two sons, Robert A. Belcher of
Albany and Rodney A. Belcher of Jacksonville; four daughters, Mrs.
Mildred B. Pryse of Atlanta; Mrs. Lillian B. Bales, Mrs. Elizabeth
Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Mary Howard all of Albany. One sister, Mrs. J.
H. Dollar of Bainbridge, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Arrangements were in charge of Clark Funeral Home."
